Bassetlaw council has apologised after delays to the reopening of the Canch Splash Park this summer.
The council said it understands how much families and young people value the facility and is sorry it has not yet opened for the season.
When the splash park closed in October 2025, the council identified a number of large-scale repairs and refurbishment works that needed to be carried out.
The work has led to a £160,000 rebuild, including a new bespoke insulated plant room building, new electrics and components throughout, refurbished pumps and pipes, a new chlorinating unit, and new start buttons on the splash pad.
The council said the essential maintenance is intended to make the splash park safer, more reliable, and extend its usable life so it can continue to be enjoyed by children and families for years to come.
However, the project has experienced a number of delays over the last six months, which affected the start date for the specialist contractor. The contractor was not available to begin work until June 2026.
The council said it appreciates the delays have been frustrating and disappointing, particularly during the warm weather this summer, and thanked residents for their patience.
Contractors are now working to complete the repairs so the splash park can open at the beginning of the school summer holidays.
The reopening remains subject to mandatory water testing, with results taking up to 14 days to be returned by an independent laboratory.
The council said it recognises this is not the timeline families had hoped for and thanked residents for their understanding while the project nears completion.
Alternative splash parks are available at Kings’ Park in Retford and Langold Country Park.
