Police in West Bridgford made the arrest after a suspect came to their attention because of his behaviour.
Police said:
‘West Bridgford Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested and charged a 25-year-old male with possessing a knife in Boundary Road Park on Friday evening 23 May.
‘PCSO Bee and PCSO Cole were engaging with the community when a male came to their attention because of his behaviour.
‘The PCSOs approached the male and found that he was intoxicated with alcohol and drugs, so they alerted their police colleagues.
‘The male was searched, and a knife approximately 5 inches long was found on him.
‘The male was arrested and taken into custody, where he was charged with the offence of having an article with a blade or point in a public place.’
The offender is due in court early next month.
Sergeant Sands of West Bridgford Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“Knife crime causes devastation to the victims and their families.”‘
“Carrying a knife or any type of blade for protection is not an excuse; it is still an offence, and where possible we will take action.”
“As with all things in life, education around the topic is important, starting at an early
age. However, when this doesn’t work, we must take a proactive and robust approach.”
