Police release image after electric bike theft in Edwalton

Police are trying to trace a man following the theft of an electric bike in Edwalton.

A suspicious incident was initially reported involving a man riding one bike while holding another, say police.

A spokesperson rot he force said:

‘The rider eventually lost his balance and fell off the e-bike he was riding in Wellin Lane, Edwalton.

‘Believing something suspicious was happening, a member of the public approached the man and took the second e-bike from him.

‘Following that confrontation, the bike rider left the scene at around 10.20am on Thursday, 2 July, while the member of the public called the police.

‘The e-bike was handed over to our officers, who later received a separate report that day of an e-bike being stolen from a garage at a property in Edwalton.

‘We have since confirmed that the e-bike recovered was the one taken during the burglary, and it has now been returned to its rightful owner.

‘An investigation is now ongoing to track down the person responsible for the break-in, and we are now able to release this image of someone we would like to speak to as part of our enquiries.’

PCSO Jodie Turner said: “I’d firstly like to praise the actions of the member of the public who recovered this e-bike after suspecting it could have been stolen.

“On that note, I’d like to request the assistance of the public once again by asking anyone who recognises the man in this picture to please contact us.

“We’d also ask that the individual in question does the right thing if they see this appeal and makes himself known to us, so that we can ask him a few questions.”

“We can be contacted directly by calling 101, quoting incident 234 of 2 July 2026.

Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
