The Nottingham Belfry has been acquired by UK hotel investment and operating group Hunton Hotels for an undisclosed sum, with plans for significant investment ahead of its reopening.
The four-star hotel, which has 120 bedrooms, fell into administration in January before ceasing trading the following month, when all staff were made redundant.
Administrators FRP Advisory had initially said they were seeking a buyer for the property and that trading would continue as normal during the sale process, with staff retained while a purchaser was sought.
Hunton Hotels has now bought the property and says it intends to invest significantly in the site before reopening it.
The acquisition forms part of the group’s plans to expand its UK hotel portfolio, with Hunton Hotels also seeking further acquisition and development opportunities in London and regional markets.
The Nottingham Belfry has 120 guest bedrooms arranged across four floors, together with 10 conference and meeting rooms.
The property also includes a bar, restaurant and leisure facilities, including a gym, fitness studio and indoor spa.
There is on-site parking for 240 vehicles.
The sale was handled by Savills Manchester.
Tom Cunningham, UK regional director for hotel capital markets at Savills Manchester, said the property had attracted significant interest from potential buyers.
He said: “The sale attracted significant interest from the market, generating multiple competitive bids and demonstrating the continued strength of investor demand for hotel assets in the regions.”
No reopening date has yet been announced, and details of the planned investment in the hotel have not been disclosed.
