Appeal after cyclist suffers broken collar bone in hit-and-run

Keen cyclist Kyle Murcott hasn’t been able to work after being thrown over his handlebars in a hit-and-run crash.

The 22-year-old B&Q packer suffered a broken collar bone and required treatment at hospital for stitches to his nose and face due to the impact with the van.

Kyle is currently off sick and doctors have said it could be another month until he’s allowed to go back to work.

He said: “I’m still quite a bit of pain and I’ve obviously not been able to lift anything heavy, which is my main role at work. I’m desperate to get back. The doctors have said I need more time for my collar to heal.

“I’m still very upset that the van driver didn’t stop and check up on me properly and stay with me. Instead he left.

“I was basically riding along a side street, going to get a drink from a shop and then bang, the van piled into me.

“I was knocked out for several minutes. There was a lot of pain of course and lots of scrapes over my face and body.

“I was told a group of teenagers helped me up and looked after me until the ambulance arrived.

“It’s put me off riding really. I’ve only been back on my bike once and that was to get it fixed. I’ve been staying at house and counting down the days until I can return to work.

“Hopefully someone saw the incident and can help find the man who did this.”

Officers are now appealing for information and witnesses. The incident happened around 1-1.30pm on 6 July 2020 in Cumbria Road, Worksop.

PC George Watson is leading the investigation. He said: “We believe the van driver stopped briefly to speak with the cyclist, but didn’t leave any details.

“We are keen to speak to the driver and to anyone who saw the incident – or anyone who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage in the area at the time.

“The van has been described as orange or red coloured.

“If you can help us with the investigation please call 101, quoting incident number 564 of 6 July 2020.”
