A suspect has appeared in court after police received multiple reports of a man with a knife in the street.
Officers were called to Chesterfield Avenue, Bingham, Rushcliffe, at around 5pm on 17 May 2023 after members of the public reported a disturbance.
A suspect was identified in nearby Carnarvon Place and arrested by the Rushcliffe neighbourhood policing team and response officers.
While detaining the suspect, two officers were spat at with one also suffering injuries to his hand after being assaulted.
Aidan Sheppard, aged 26, of Harebell Gardens, Bingham, has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, threatening behaviour and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday (19 May) and will next appear at the same court on 16 June.
Sergeant Brett Price, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This incident attracted some attention in the community so I hope our rapid response in arresting and charging a suspect provides reassurance.
“We always respond quickly to reports of knives in public as they can be a danger to the person carrying them as well as anyone else they come into contact with.
“Stopping people from picking up a knife in the first place is the best way of tackling knife crime.”
