Birds Bakery has confirmed its Melton Road shop in West Bridgford will close in January 2027, almost six years after it opened.
The company described the decision as an “isolated closure” and said it was exploring opportunities for affected staff to move to neighbouring stores.
The shop at 83 Melton Road opened on 13 March 2021, becoming Birds’ second West Bridgford branch alongside its Central Avenue store. The opening created 14 jobs, with the premises including a shop, hot food counter and seating for 24 customers.

A spokesperson for Birds Bakery told The Wire: “We have made the difficult decision to close the doors to our Melton Road store in West Bridgford in January 2027. We would like to reassure people that this is an isolated closure, and our absolute priority is supporting the team members affected.

“We’re actively exploring redeployment opportunities across our neighboring stores and are immensely grateful for the team’s dedication and hard work over the years. Of course, a big thank you also goes to our Melton Road customers, who we hope will be able to join us at our Central Avenue or Ruddington stores from January, both just a short distance away.”
The company has not given a specific closing date in January or a reason for the decision. The number of staff currently affected has not been confirmed.
