A by-election is likely to be held on Monday 16 September in the Bestwood St Albans ward following the resignation of Councillor Des Gibbons.
There could also be a parish council by-election for the parish of St Albans on the same day, if contested.
The by-election only affects registered electors in the Bestwood St Albans Ward and St Albans Parish; residents living in other areas of Gedling Borough will not be eligible to vote.
The election process has now started to fill the vacant seats.
Local residents have until 4 pm on Monday 19 August to submit nomination papers to stand in either seat. Nomination packs can be found on the Gedling Borough Council website at www.gedling.gov.uk/elections.
The deadline for new voter registration applications is midnight on Thursday 29 August and the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Friday 30 August. Recent home movers should check that they have updated the electoral register and will be eligible to vote.
If contested, the by-election will take place on Monday 16 September and eligible voters will be notified about their nearest polling station soon. All voters must bring photographic identification in order to take part in the by-election.
Additional guidance about being an election candidate and the various election procedures is available online from the Electoral Commission at www.electoralcommission.org.uk .
