Officers arrested a man on suspicion of dealing cannabis during patrols in The Meadows.
The 44-year-old was stopped in St George’s Drive and was questioned on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs yesterday (Friday 3 April).
The arrest came after officers received a report that a man had been seen on CCTV handling a large bag of cannabis.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team was also tasked with engaging with anyone not complying with national guidance on social distancing and explaining the risks and encouraging them to stay at home to help save lives.
Inspector James Walker said the community in The Meadows had been really supportive.
“People have been understanding and it is really good that people have listened,” he said.
“We’ve had very few issues and everyone we have spoken to has been very positive.”
Inspector Walker added that the national measures implemented to stop the spread of Coronavirus had also seen “normal” demand on the police fall slightly.
“The shops are shut so there has been less shop theft. There are fewer people on the streets so robbery has fallen. Drug dealers are more obvious because they stand out more and there are more officers freed up to go out on patrol so it is more difficult for them to hide,” he said.
