Clifton: Armed police rush to tram stop and seize machete from teenager

A teenager is due in court after being found in possession of a large knife.

Armed Response Officers were called to Southchurch Drive, Clifton, at about 9pm on Tuesday 2 September after a suspect was reportedly seen in possession of a knife.

Immediately after arriving at the scene, the officers challenged a young man waiting at the tram stop and ordered him to lay on the ground.

A subsequent search revealed a large machete style knife, which has now been seized.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with possessing a bladed article in a public place and is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.
