Cornerhouse stabbing suspect appears in court

A man has appeared before magistrates following a stabbing at a city centre bar.

Police were called to the Skybar, inside The Cornerhouse, in Forman Street, Nottingham, shortly before 10 pm on Saturday (6 July).

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening or life-altering.

A suspect was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and has now been charged with committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 33-year-old man from Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (8 July).

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 5 August 2024.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This incident occurred inside a busy venue and we understand the concern it will have caused.

“The consequences, as so often with incidents of this nature, could potentially have been even more grave.

“Detectives and our uniformed colleagues have worked quickly and efficiently to arrest this suspect and place him before the courts.

“I hope the robust police response reassures people.”
