Improvement works at Cotgrave Country Park are due to resume on Monday 3 August after tests found buried materials uncovered during excavation were non-hazardous.
Ground clearance and excavation had begun to prepare bases for a new visitor hub and toilets, as well as a hardstanding area for the park’s existing coffee van.
The work was halted after contractors discovered metal and other unidentified materials beneath the ground which had not been detected by earlier borehole investigations.
The material initially appeared to be ordinary concrete rubble, but soil samples were sent for testing as a precaution to ensure there was no risk to contractors or members of the public.
Tests have since confirmed that the materials are non-hazardous, although they will need to be removed and disposed of carefully.
The works are being managed by Arc Partnership. A full-time project manager will be based at the site and contact details will be displayed on a notice for anyone wishing to raise concerns.
Efforts will be made to minimise disruption while the improvement project continues.
