Councillor Jackson died after a long battle with cancer.
Nottinghamshire County Council said:
‘We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of long-serving Nottinghamshire County Councillor and former chairman, Councillor Roger Jackson.
‘Councillor Jackson, who has sadly died after a long battle with cancer, represented the Southwell Division for more than 10 years and was a true champion of the communities he tirelessly served.
‘He will be fondly remembered for his time as council chairman in 2022-23, a year in which he helped to raise more than £27,000 for the Nottingham Ukrainian Cultural Centre – part of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
‘Rest in peace Councillor Jackson, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are very much with your wife, Jilly and your family at this very sad time.’

‘It is with great sadness that Newark and Sherwood District Council pays tribute to Councillor Roger Jackson following his passing.
Councillor Jackson was first elected to Newark and Sherwood District Council in May 2003 and dedicated more than two decades to public service, working tirelessly on behalf of the communities he represented. During his long and distinguished career in local government, Roger made a significant contribution to the work of the Council, holding a number of senior leadership roles, including Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group and Vice-Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council, and helped to shape services across areas including finance, leisure, culture, environmental services, and community safety.
Throughout his years of service, Roger was well known for his approachable nature, strong relationships with residents, and unwavering commitment to the district. He was a passionate advocate for rural communities and worked closely with residents, parish councils, and partner organisations to address local concerns and improve the lives of those he represented.
During his time as Portfolio Holder for Cleaner, Safer, Greener, Roger played an important role in supporting environmental and community initiatives across Newark and Sherwood. He was particularly committed to tackling flooding, fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour, and the provision of local services in rural areas.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Councillor Roger Jackson, who sadly passed away at home this morning following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Roger devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to serving his communities, following in his father’s footsteps into local government and serving for over two decades as a District and County Councillor. He continued to support his parishes throughout his illness and was an inspiration to members and officers at Newark and Sherwood District Council, who knew Roger as a fair and honest man of integrity.
Roger was a busy working farmer, well known for his wider community work, which included serving on the executive committee and as Chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Show at Newark Showground, being an active member of the Young Farmers, a Past Chairman of the County and Regional Livestock Committees, the South Notts Hunt, and many other voluntary pursuits.
Above all, Roger was a friend and mentor to many, and I will miss him greatly. He will be remembered as a gentleman—a conscientious and kind person who always put others before himself and whose work undoubtedly benefited his communities. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and colleagues across local government, and by the communities he served so faithfully.
Our thoughts are with Roger’s wife, Jilly, and his family at this incredibly difficult time.
