Last night, a motion was passed at Ashfield District Council’s Full Council meeting to request that life-saving defibrillators are made available in every police car.
A spokesperson said:
‘We have worked with partners to install defibrillators across the county including in parks and green spaces, and also have the life-saving machines in all of our Community Safety vans, thanks to a generous donation from Lindum Group.
‘This motion backs a national campaign from Naomi Rees-Issitt, who lost her son Jamie Rees in January 2022.
‘Currently, only one in 11 police cars across the UK have access to defibrillators, with police often first on scene.
‘Defibrillators restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. If used in the first minute of a cardiac arrest, the survival rate can be as high at 90%.
‘Now we will write to the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police and the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner calling for defibrillators to be available in every police car.’
