Nottingham residents warned over fake garden waste renewal email

Nottingham City Council has warned residents about a scam email claiming they need to reactivate their Garden Waste account.

The council said the message did not come from Nottingham City Council and confirmed that no personal data held by the authority has been accessed.

Residents are being urged not to click any links, provide personal information or make payments if they receive an email asking them to reactivate their account from an address that does not look genuine.

Official council emails are sent from addresses ending @public.govdelivery.com.

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of a scam email claiming that residents need to reactivate their Garden Waste account.

“This email did not come from Nottingham City Council. We can also confirm that no personal data held by the council has been accessed.

“Please be aware that official council emails are sent from addresses ending @public.govdelivery.com.

“If you receive an email from any other address asking you to reactivate your account or click a link, please do not click any links, provide any personal information, or make any payments. Delete the email immediately.

“If you’re ever unsure whether a message is genuine, please contact us directly.”

Residents are also being advised to check the sender’s email address carefully before taking any action and to stay vigilant for suspicious messages.
