Covid: Free testing with quick results for people with NO symptoms now OPEN to anyone in Nottingham city

A new pilot Asymptomatic ( showing no symptoms ) Testing Centre for people who live and work in Nottingham city opened at Djanogly Community Leisure Centre, Gregory Boulevard, on Wednesday 20 January 2021.

People who cannot work from home or live in multi-generational households are particularly  urged to get the test.

The centre is operated by Nottingham City Council encourages people without symptoms of Covid-19 (asymptomatic) to drop in and get a free rapid Covid-19 test.

Cllr Sally Longford, Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “Nottingham City Council asked to be part of a pilot to offer asymptomatic ( when you don’t have any symptoms but may have the virus ) testing for Covid-19 to help reduce the spread of the virus in the city. We’re pleased to now be able to offer this facility for residents city-wide who live or work in Nottingham’

‘It’s also about people who feel they need it – people who are working and not getting tested at work, may be in multi-generational households, worried about taking it home to family – to reassure them

“We know there have been high rates of Covid-19 infections in city areas and that many citizens living here are of working age and more at risk from Covid-19.

“The aim of the asymptomatic testing is to pick up more infections before people become symptomatic and support them to isolate earlier. People will not need to display any symptoms to access this test and the results of positive or negative for Covid-19 can be given in under an hour. The offer will be for each person to access a test once a week.”

People who live and work city-wide will therefore be encouraged to get a Covid-19 test at the centre at least once a week:

The Asymptomatic Testing Centre is open seven days a week, from 9.30am until 6.30pm.

There is no need to book – people can just drop in.

People must not attend if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19, and under 12-year-olds must come with an adult.

The asymptomatic testing pilot will run until March 2021.

A positive or negative test result can be given within the hour and support will be offered to those people who test positive.

Cllr Longford continued: “We will work hard over the coming weeks to ensure the local communities in the city are aware of the testing centre, how to get a test and encourage as many people are possible to take advantage of the pilot.

“We will learn from this pilot and consider our approach to community testing in other areas of the city.”
