Police have introduced further dispersal orders in Beeston town centre following reports of antisocial behaviour involving groups of young people.
Separate orders are in place today (Friday 28 August), Saturday and Sunday, giving officers temporary powers to direct people to leave the designated area. The powers can be used regardless of whether an offence has been committed.
A previous order operated between midday and midnight on Tuesday 25 August. Nottinghamshire Police said it resulted in a significant reduction in reports of antisocial behaviour.
Inspector Usha Madaraa, district commander for Broxtowe, said unacceptable behaviour had been reported in the town centre over recent days, mostly involving young people.
She said: “As we saw on Tuesday, dispersal orders are an extremely effective tool in tackling antisocial behaviour and removing problem individuals.
“Once in place, they are also extremely effective in preventing further incidents, which is why I have decided to repeat this order over the weekend.
“Although this order gives us the option of acting without arresting people and taking them into custody, anyone committing a criminal offence can expect to face the full consequences of their actions.
“To this end, we have already identified two suspects from earlier in the week who will be hearing from us soon.”
Inspector Madaraa encouraged anyone with concerns to speak to officers patrolling the town centre over the weekend.
Police said another dispersal order could be imposed if considered necessary.
