EMR has issued a statement at 7:51 pm on 19 June after the incident.
Health and Social Care secretary James Murray said at 7:50 pm
‘I am being kept updated on the collision of two trains between Luton and Bedford. A number of people have been injured and I thank first responders who are helping those affected.’
An East Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “The 16:40 EMR train from Corby to London St Pancras has been involved in a collision with 15:50 Nottingham at London St Pancras at Bedford South.
“We are currently on the scene and working with Network Rail to assist the emergency services.
“Further updates will be provided as soon as more information is established.”
Trains are unable to run in or out on London St Pancras for the remainder of this evening. Customers are advised DO NOT TRAVEL this evening (19th June).

Customers are advised that due to the time of day, connections will be limited, so please check for your entire journey before attempting to complete this route. A shuttle train is running between Kettering and Corby only. - Kettering/Wellingborough
Rail replacement bus services are in operation between Kettering and Corby and between Kettering and Wellingborough in both directions. Rail replacement bus services are also in operation between Kettering and Northampton. You may travel on London Northwestern Railway services between Northampton and London Euston.
All of these alternative route options are available in the opposite direction too. Don’t worry about your ticket, other train operators know about the disruption to your journey and your ticket can be used at no extra cost on their trains.
We promise that if you need to start your outward journey from a different operator’s station due to this disruption, then you will also be able to travel back to that station when you return, regardless of if the disruption has ended or your ticket type.
