The first YunExpress-operated cargo flight from China has officially landed at East Midlands Airport, marking the airport’s new partnership with Chinese logistics firm YunExpress and Central Airlines.
The inaugural Boeing 777F freighter arrived to a warm welcome on Tuesday, May 13, with representatives from the Chinese Embassy to the UK, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce on hand to mark the occasion.
Photos from the day show dignitaries gathered on the tarmac and the aircraft being met with red carpet treatment.
This historic arrival follows the recent announcement that East Midlands Airport will be the first UK airport to host regular flights by YunExpress and Central Airlines, with services initially running twice weekly.
Airport Managing Director Steve Griffiths called it “a major step forward” for the airport’s air freight credentials and the start of a long-term partnership.
Further arrivals are expected as the route scales up in the months ahead.
