Firefighters attend unsafe building in Nottingham city centre

Emergency services attended the Slim Chickens building in Long Row in Nottingham at 1:30 pm on Sunday 25 August 2024.

The incident unfolded as a report of an unsafe building was called through to emergency services.

A window on the top floor of the Slim Chickens building in Long Row, close to Nottingham beach in Old Market Square was unsecured.

A large pane of glass had come free from its frame and was blowing in and out over the pedestrianised area below, obviously creating danger for the shoppers and visitors.

Police cordoned off an area from Five Guys to the Queen Street turn.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services attended with the Aerial Ladder Platform.

Two firefighters were raised up to the level of the window, and after skillful work in high winds managed to get close enough to safely remove the glass panes and return them to the ground.

The incident ended at around 2:45 pm.
