Free learn to cycle sessions and guided cycle rides for adults at Rushcliffe Arena

Free learn to cycle sessions and guided cycle rides for adults are taking place at Rushcliffe Arena on three dates next month, courtesy of Rushcliffe Borough Council, Cycling UK and Ridewise.

The events on 6 and 13 March will give cycling beginners aged 18 and over the chance to learn how to ride a bike and become more confident on two wheels.

Then on March 20 there’s a chance to join a gentle guided five-mile ride for those getting to grips with cycling on local roads and cycle lanes.

Bikes can be hired for free and instructors will be on hand to give guidance for complete beginners, those who may have learned to cycle earlier in life and would like a refresher or who can cycle but would like to develop their skills and confidence.

Meeting outside the Leisure Centre entrance at Rushcliffe Arena on Rugby Road in West Bridgford, the sessions can be booked online at https://ridewise.reservio.com/

They include:

Free learn to cycle sessions

  • Sunday March 6 and from 10am to 11am and 11.15am to 12.15pm
  • Sunday March 13 from 10am to 11am and 11.15am to 12.15pm

Guided rides

  • Sunday March 20 from 10am to 11am or 11.15am to 12.25pm

The Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change Cllr Abby Brennan said: “It’s brilliant to receive this funding from Cycling UK and Ridewise to enable even more people to get onto two wheels and embrace one form of sustainable transport.

“Cycling not only improves physical health but also reduces your carbon footprint if you cycle instead of using a petrol or diesel vehicle.

“If you’re a complete beginner and have never cycled before, or if you’re just looking to gain confidence and learn more about cycling, we would encourage you to come along to the sessions.
