Visitors to Cotgrave Country Park can now make use of new facilities following the opening of two waterless toilets, a new cabin and seating area in the heart of the popular park.
They were officially opened by the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Christopher Adegoke, at a celebration event held in the park on 30 October.
The new facilities are located in the area used by the popular Ginger and Blue coffee van and opposite the Green Roof Shelters, and form part of improvements being delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council to enhance the experience for visitors to the park.
The two new toilets are accessible and use the sun and wind to evaporate and dry waste material. They do not require water, electricity or chemicals to operate, helping to provide a more sustainable solution for the country park.

A new timber-clad and solar-powered cabin has also been installed, providing an indoor base for the park’s site manager, volunteers and Friends of Cotgrave Country Park and a location from which events can be run.
In due course, the cabin will also be available for other groups to hire for meetings and activities within the park, and for use by school groups.

A new surfaced area has also been created for the Ginger and Blue coffee van, including an electric hook-up, with permanent seating nearby providing visitors with a place to relax and enjoy the park.
The improvements have mainly been funded through developer contributions secured from nearby Hollygate Park and Mill Lane developments.
Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Cotgrave Country Park is a fantastic asset for local people and visitors, and these new facilities will make spending time here even more enjoyable.
“The new waterless toilets provide an innovative and sustainable solution, while the cabin will give our site team, volunteers and Friends of Cotgrave Country Park a much-needed base.
“We’re also pleased to have created a proper surfaced area with seating for the coffee van, giving visitors another reason to stop, relax and enjoy everything the park has to offer.
“Importantly, these improvements have been made possible largely through developer contributions, allowing investment from nearby developments to be put back into the local community and its green spaces.”
The project was designed, cost and project managed and delivered by Arc Partnership, a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE.
Daniel Maher, Managing Director at Arc Partnership, said: “We are delighted to have delivered the new community facilities at Cotgrave Country Park, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council. Sustainability and cost efficiency were key considerations during design and delivery with the installation of solar panels, battery storage and a back-up generator powering the entire site cabin, including heating and lighting. These improvements have ensured the county council can now benefit from long-term cost savings and value.”
The toilets are intended to be available for public use every day, although initially they may operate at limited times. Opening times will be advertised at the park.
