A handgun, a revolver and rounds of ammunition were all found on board a stolen car.
The viable firearms were discovered after Operational Support officers combined to pull over a Nissan Juke.
Firearms officers initially spotted a vehicle they believed to be on cloned plates in Sutton-in-Ashfield, around 9.20pm on 22 July.
When the car then joined the M1 near Hucknall, Road Crime Team officers took over, with the Juke travelling over the speed limit in the resulting pursuit.
Having brought the vehicle to a stop in Leicestershire, police seized two viable firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition following a search.
The car was also confirmed to have been reported stolen, with a suspect duly arrested at the scene.
Dzhoni Martinov Gogov has since been charged with a multitude of offences, including possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, possessing a firearm without a certificate and possessing prohibited ammunition.
The 23-year-old was also charged with dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen goods, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
Gogov, of no fixed address, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (25 July), where he was remanded into custody.
He is next due to attend Nottingham Crown Court on 21 August.

“We can confirm that a suspect has appeared before the courts after being charged with multiple firearm offences. Â
“Possessing a firearm – in particular a viable one – is an incredibly serious offence, so we were pleased to be able to take two weapons and rounds of ammunition out of harm’s way in this incident.
“That was made possible thanks to the actions of multiple Operational Support officers, who worked in tandem to ultimately make this important seizure.”
