Jail for Nottingham man who left victim bleeding in the street

A violent offender who attacked a man and left him bleeding in the street has been jailed.

The victim suffered multiple facial injuries, including three puncture wounds above his eyebrow and four missing teeth, after being struck with a glass bottle in Berridge Road, Radford, Nottingham.

Daniel Henson, aged 43, attacked the man despite having spent the evening talking with him at Henson’s flat in Camomile Gardens.

Henson was jailed for a total of three years and nine months when he appeared for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (10 January 2023).

The victim had bumped into Henson while visiting a shop on the evening of 5 July 2022. The two were known to each other and Henson invited the man to his home.

Later, Henson suggested they take his dog for a walk. While on the walk Henson struck the victim in the face with a bottle without warning.

The victim was left bleeding profusely and passers-by called the police. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment of his injuries, which required a number of stitches.

Officers quickly arrested Henson and later searches found a broken glass bottle at the scene of the attack.

Henson initially denied the assault but was later convicted of GBH without intent.

Detective Constable Wendy Brown, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty attack which left the victim with serious facial injuries.

“Violence has absolutely no place in our society. This case should serve as a warning to other people that we take these offences extremely seriously.

“Incidents of violence will be investigated thoroughly and every effort will be made to bring offenders to justice.

“Nottinghamshire Police has a zero-tolerance approach to all incidents of violence. This sort of behaviour in our communities is totally unacceptable.

“I am pleased Henson has been punished for his actions.”
