Man banned from Nottingham city centre for two years

A man has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from Nottingham city centre for two years.

Jerome Banton, 40, of Radford Boulevard, Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday 8 August where he handed the order for two years.

The conditions in the his CBO state that he must not enter the city centre, as defined by a map provided to him, until August 2027.

Magistrates imposed the order after hearing he had been involved in over 18 incidents in the past five months, including assaults, shoplifting and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

PCSO Solomon Clark, of the City Centre neighbourhood policing team, said:

“We know antisocial behaviour is an ongoing issue in parts of the city centre and we are determined to make full use of the available legislation to tackle it. 

“In this instance, Banton has become well-known to us in recent months having continued to cause issues, particularly in and around Old Market Square.

“His offending was affecting the visitor experience in Nottingham, as well as having an impact on local businesses and police resources.

“We therefore applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order so that we can stop him from causing further harassment, alarm and distress.

“We appreciate how antisocial behaviour can impact those people who spend time in the city, and we hope this CBO helps to reduce this type of behaviour, and help keep himself and others safe around him.”

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden added:

“It is crucial that we tackle prolific offenders who repeatedly disrupt public spaces, affecting both residents and visitors.

“By issuing a Criminal Behaviour Order, we are sending a clear message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated in our city, or anywhere in Nottinghamshire.

“We are committed to making our city a safer, more welcoming place for everyone, and will continue to use every available tool to address these issues.”
