A man who left a door supervisor with serious head injuries after attacking him with a baseball bat has been jailed.
The victim, who worked as a door supervisor at McDonald’s on Clumber Street, Nottingham, suffered a fractured skull after being assaulted by Braulio Joaquim Lemos in a ‘revenge’ attack.
The offender attended the restaurant at around 4 am on 22 September 2023, where he was observed harassing female staff and customers by asking for their phone numbers.
The 33-year-old was asked to leave by the door supervisor but responded by punching him in the face during a scuffle.
He then left and walked home before changing into a tracksuit with a hood.
Joaquim Lemos returned to Clumber Street at 5.18 am armed with a baseball bat.
He hid behind a parked van before charging at the same staff member from across the street.
He struck him on the side of the head before fleeing with the weapon.
The victim was taken to hospital, where it was later discovered that he had suffered a fractured skull and a brain haemorrhage.
Joaquim Lemos was identified as the offender and arrested following an investigation by detectives.
He eventually pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent on the day he was due to stand trial.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (24 July), Joaquim Lemos, of Northumberland Close, Nottingham, was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Passing sentence, Judge Stuart Rafferty described the attack as ‘unnecessary, unlawful and motivated by revenge’.
Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Joaquim Lemos had ample opportunity to calm down after the initial altercation with the door supervisor.
“However, he chose instead to arm himself with a weapon and seek revenge by attacking the victim with such force that he fractured the man’s skull.
“The head injury continues to affect the victim almost three years later, and he is unable to live a normal life with his family.
“Such violence has no place in our night-time economy, and anyone responsible for assaults of this nature can expect a robust response from the force and, ultimately, a spell behind bars.”
