He was immediately operated on by neuro surgeons and remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with serious injuries which officers believe was caused after he was punched in the head.

The 28-year-old was knocked unconscious after suffering a blow to the head following reports of a fight on Easthorpe Street in Ruddington, just after 9.30pm last night (Saturday August 21).

He was taken to hospital where a scan revealed he had a significant bleed on his brain.

As part of the investigation a 34-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody in connection with the assault, while further enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Dumbrell, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a very serious incident that has taken place at a time when there would have been a lot of people out socialising in the area.
