An uninsured and unlicensed moped rider was chased down and arrested by police and had his bike seized.
Reports were received on Tuesday (13 January) that a motorcycle was being ridden along footpaths in Worksop town centre.
The motorbike, which did not have a number plate displayed, was later seen entering The Canch park, where the rider began carrying out stunts across paths and open fields.
Officers attended the area and later located a suspect, who was on foot, in Lowtown View. Following a short foot chase, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He was also arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.
In a separate incident on 9 December, two motorcycles were reported stolen from a garage on Kilton Road, Worksop. The same suspect was further arrested on suspicion of burglary.
He was later released on police bail. The motorcycle involved has since been seized and is expected to be destroyed.
PC Archie Fogg, of Nottinghamshire Police, said riding a moped in such a dangerous way put not only the rider but also pedestrians and other road users at serious risk.
He added that the suspect was wearing only a balaclava for protection while riding, which would offer little defence in the event of a high-speed collision.
“With this vehicle seized, it’s one less nuisance bike on our streets,” he said. “Others who choose to ride motorbikes illegally can expect the same as we continue to clamp down on this type of activity.”
