Nottingham City Council announces new Executive Board

The council announced the appointment of a new Executive Board at its Full Council meeting.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Neghat Khan, has appointed a refreshed Executive Board to drive forward the Council’s priorities, with a focus on regeneration, financial stability, neighbourhood services and opportunities for residents.

The new Executive Members and their responsibilities are:

Councillor David Mellen – Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism

Councillor Ethan Radford – Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Finance and Resources

Councillor Helen Kalsi – Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health

Councillor Jay Hayes – Executive Member for Housing and Planning

Councillor Linda Woodings – Executive Member for Children and Young People

Councillor Matt Shannon – Executive Member for Community Protection, Neighbourhoods and Equalities

Councillor Neghat Khan – Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Strategic Regeneration and Communications

Councillor Patience Ifediora – Executive Member for Regional Development, Growth and Transport

Councillor Sam Lux – Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability

Councillor Sulcan Mahmood – Executive Member for Education, Employment, and Skills.

Councillor Neghat Khan said: “My new Executive team brings together a strong mix of experience, fresh perspectives and a shared determination to deliver for Nottingham.

“I’m particularly pleased to welcome new members stepping into key roles. Councillor Patience Ifediora, former Lord Mayor has a long record of dedicated service to her community and brings valuable experience across housing, community engagement and regional partnership working.

“Councillor Sulcan Mahmood’s work supporting residents into skills, training and employment will be vital as we continue to focus on inclusive growth. Councillor Matt Shannon has already shown a strong commitment to keeping our neighbourhoods safe and clean, working closely with partners across the city.

“Alongside this, Councillor David Mellen of course brings a wealth of leadership experience and deep knowledge of the Council, which will be invaluable in supporting our leisure, culture and tourism ambitions.

“Together, this team will focus on leading Nottingham forward, improving services, strengthening our finances, and making Nottingham a cleaner, safer and more ambitious city.”

At the same meeting, Councillor Cheryl Barnard was appointed as Lord Mayor of Nottingham the 2026/27 civic year, who represents Bulwell Forest ward, brings a wealth of experience from her work in children’s services, community leadership and the voluntary sector. Councillor Audrey Dinnall appointed as Sheriff of Nottingham, who represents Leen Valley ward, has a long career supporting victims within the criminal justice system and a strong track record of community and equality advocacy.

Councillor Neghat Khan added: “I would also like to congratulate Councillor Cheryl Barnard on her appointment as Lord Mayor and Councillor Audrey Dinnall as Sheriff. Both have made outstanding contributions to Nottingham and will be fantastic ambassadors for our city over the coming year.”

The newly appointed Executive will begin work as of today, 12 May 2026, focusing on the Council’s key priorities for the year ahead.
