A ‘volatile and violent offender’ who stabbed a man in the back with a pair of scissors has been jailed for ten years.
Kain Masey, aged 33, carried out the assault after getting into a fight with his victim at a house in St Ann’s, Nottingham, on the evening of 31 October last year.
Masey, who has previous convictions for violence, harassment, and dangerous driving, then bit the hand of a female officer as he was arrested a short time later.
During a subsequent trip to hospital for treatment to his own injuries, the heavily intoxicated Masey subjected another officer to a torrent of racial abuse.
Witnesses to the earlier assault reported that Masey had been watching a film and drinking before becoming enraged by a comment about a family member.
He later admitted the offences against the officers but denied having stabbed anyone earlier in the evening.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, assaulting an emergency worker, and racially aggravated intentional harassment.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 8 April, Masey, of Eastglade Road, Nottingham, was jailed for ten years.
Detective Constable Mitchell Thomas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Masey is a violent and volatile offender who launched a vicious and unprovoked attack on a wholly innocent man.
“Fortunately, the victim of this assault was able to defend himself and avoid more serious injuries.
“That does not, however, detract from the seriousness of this offence, which has unsurprisingly had a very profound impact on the victim.
“I am pleased that Masey has now received this very significant jail sentence, which should also serve as a warning to others about the consequences of this kind of violence.”
