Tributes paid to loving dad after remains found in Mansfield

Tributes have been paid to a loving father whose human remains were found in a wooded area in Mansfield.

Members of the public found the remains of Michael Dennington in a wooded area next to the A617 Rainworth Bypass around 2.45pm on 23 May.

Specialist archaeologists, anthropologists, detectives, and police search teams were at the site for some time when the discovery was made.

Michael was reported missing in May 2020 by his family.

He was last seen at Kings Mill Hospital before being discharged.

An extensive police investigation was carried out to locate Michael at the time, however, he was never found.

A team of detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and are still waiting for the final post-mortem findings.

A file has been prepared for the coroner.

Michael’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Tributes have been paid by two of his children, who have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

His son said:

“For many years, I’ve looked up to you. You had a good heart and always cared for those around you.

“I remember growing up as a kid, walking to the shops with you. You’d make me laugh and give me a handful of change to buy sweets. There are so many fond memories that I share with you.

“There were many things I wanted to show you throughout my journey in life, and many things I won’t be able to now.

“But I know you’ll be looking down and watching over us, wanting the very best for your family. love you, Dad. Until we meet again, keep my seat warm in heaven.”

His daughter added:

“Dad, it’s strange and impossible to put into words what we are feeling.

“For years you were our dad. Dad, you shaped part of who we are today. Rest in peace, love you.”
