Plans for a brand new gym in a former Nottingham warehouse have been approved by the council.
Nottingham City Council gave the go-ahead for Phyisque Evolution Limited to take over Almor Limited, a former warehouse on Daleside Road in Sneinton.
The warehouse is part of a group of large industrial buildings on site previously owned by Almore Limited, a fabric and thermal factory, which closed down in 2022.
The buildings are all currently vacant, planning documents say.
The council approved plans on Monday, April 7.
The warehouse will be transformed into a fully-functional gym with a weights section, cardio zone, boxing and MMA area along with other facilities.
This includes a lounge area with seating, female and male changing rooms, a “recovery suite”, main reception and on-site shop.
There will be 30 car parking spaces provided at the development and once operational, the venue will be open from 5am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday, documents say.
The venue is looking to hire five full-time and eight part-time staff.
Physique Evolution is an independent gym and currently operates one branch in Derby.
Mark Cheetham, the director of Physique Evolution Ltd, said: “I live in West Bridgford, me and my business partner Matthew always wanted to open our next gym in Nottingham.
“We believe it will be great for university students, we offer an affordable membership and promote an healthy lifestyle for students that won’t cost them too much.
“The next step is to get permission from the landlord and get their consent to build on the site.”
If planning permission is granted, it does not give the applicant the right to build as they still need the landowner’s permission to carry out the development.
Plans were previously submitted to transform one warehouse building on Daleside Road in Sneinton into a new venue for padel tennis centre.
Applicant Steve Summers from Advantage Padel Ltd applied to Nottingham City Council to house the facility at the same site on March 5.
The application is still pending consideration, documents say. Advantage Padel Ltd has been contacted for comment.
