A dangerous driving suspect was found under a bridge after being sniffed out by a police dog.
The discovery was made around an hour after officers spotted a car being driven at speed on the M1 near Junction 24.
Attempts were at that point made to stop the vehicle, which was seen driving over 120mph, at 1.50 am on Wednesday (13 March).
The car then made its way into Trowell Services, where it crashed into a bollard and abandoned – with its occupants fleeing from the scene.
Operational Support officers detained a suspect nearby shortly afterwards, while the dog unit and drone team were deployed to search the area.
Around an hour later, Police Dog Seth tracked down a second suspect, who was found in a tunnel under a bridge in the Gallows Inn area of Ilkeston.
Despite the suspect trying to make a run for it, they didn’t get far before PD Seth found them again – this time under a nearby car.
Two men, both aged 23, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Inspector Steven King, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This job provided a fantastic example of our different teams working together to bring suspects into custody.
“Special mention certainly needs to go to PD Seth and his handler, who both showed real tenacity in carrying out a lengthy and thorough search to locate a suspect.
“This arrest was supported by our drone team and the Operational Support and response officers in attendance, who had earlier detained another suspect in connection with this incident.
“These arrests followed a standard of driving that fell well below what is acceptable, with the car in question at one point being clocked at going over 120mph on the motorway.
“Clearly this is not okay, so we’re pleased to have been able to arrest two suspects in connection with this incident.”
