A suspect was found in a wheelie bin, thanks to a determined police dog who refused to give up.
PD Seth, fresh from detaining another suspect the day before, was deployed in the early hours of Wednesday morning (12 November) after two people fled from a car that had failed to stop.
The vehicle was initially pulled over in Wollaton after officers grew suspicious of its driver at a petrol station.
After briefly stopping in Fernwood Crescent, the driver sped off, leading an expert police driver on a pursuit.
The car eventually crashed into the driveway of a property on Central Avenue.
One suspect was detained nearby, while another escaped after being chased by PD Seth.
After wrestling free, the suspect hopped over a series of garden fences and disappeared into the darkness.
Seth, however, remained relentless. He continued tracking and eventually led his handler to the front garden of a house on Boundary Road.
Paying close attention to a row of bins, his instincts were confirmed when his handler lifted a lid and found a man standing inside.
The 33-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop, possessing an offensive weapon, common assault, and other motoring offences.
A second man, aged 30, was detained on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, possessing a Class A drug, and a public order offence.
A knuckle duster was recovered from the car, along with a small quantity of suspected Class A drugs. Both men were later released on bail.
PC James Boden of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“We were waiting in a petrol station forecourt when the subject vehicle pulled in and out again without stopping.
“Our suspicions were confirmed a short time later by the driver of this car, who tried to outrun us.
“Thanks to a full team effort, we were soon able to bring two suspects into custody.”
Sergeant Nicholas Dachtler of Nottinghamshire Police’s dog section added:
“A little over 24 hours after detaining his last criminal suspect, Seth once again reminded us of his exceptional tracking abilities.
“After initially losing out and being left only with a jacket for his troubles, Seth showed admirable determination to continue the search and soon led his handler to a suspect hiding in an unusual location.”
