Police seize cannabis plants during Mansfield raid

Thousands of pounds worth of cannabis and equipment were taken away after a police raid.

Officers forced their way into a property in Hatfield Avenue, Meden Vale, shortly after 2pm on Thursday.

Inside they found around 80 young cannabis plants and an array of sophisticated growing equipment in multiple rooms.

The plants have been taken away and destroyed and the equipment put beyond use.

Nobody was at the property when police arrived and enquiries are ongoing.

Sergeant Jay Lee, of the Mansfield Operation Reacher Team, said: “This was a sizable cannabis grow that had clearly taken a lot of time and money to set up. We believe a large crop had recently been harvested at the address but we have at least managed to cause severe disruption to the people responsible and ensure this address is unlikely to be used in this way again.

“The cultivation of cannabis is a serious offence that – when practiced on this scale – poses a significant fire risk because of the vast quantity of heat generated and the illicit bypassing of electricity metres.”
