Yesterday Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Stapleford and Long Eaton Station attended a report of a fire involving an electricity pylon on Toton Lane Stapleford – where it joins Stapleford Lane in Toton.
A spokesperson said:
‘Using firefighting jets the fire was stopped from spreading until engineers from National Grid made it safe.

‘The cause of the fire has been deemed to be rats chewing through high power cables, which subsequently started a fire.
‘During the incident, a firefighting hydrant ruptured and caused a large jet of water to be visible. This meant that the road was closed, Toton Bound for around 2 hours until Seven Trent Water isolated the flow.
‘Thanks everyone for your understanding, while we shut the road.’
