Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Tim Cuthbert updates the community.
Inspector Cuthbert writes:
‘A few updates to pass on to you all this month after a very busy (and hot) summer, with some good crime reductions in some areas of business and plenty of hard work going on in the borough.
‘Last week saw an unauthorised encampment in the car park area behind Marks & Spencer in West Bridgford. I received a fair amount of correspondence with regard to this, and I appreciate the concern it caused.
‘My team worked closely with Rushcliffe Borough Council, which took the lead on removing those not permitted to remain on the land, and thankfully, the situation was resolved in around 48 hours, with minimal disruption or damage. There are situations where police can use powers, as we have before, to remove unauthorised encampments. However, certain criteria need to be met, which were not met in this case. Rushcliffe Borough Council took swift legal action to remove those responsible, and my Neighbourhoods Team were present in the area during that process to prevent any wider disruption.
‘You may have seen that the Bridgford team have been busy seizing e-bikes of late, and we’re well into double figures now. There is a lot of information available online with regard to e-bikes and e-scooters and what you can and cannot use, but if you’re a parent considering purchasing e-bikes or adding motors to mountain bikes, please check the rules, or you could end up having one seized by my team. We are also able to seize vehicles (including e-bikes) that are used in an anti-social manner, and I appreciate the distress and even injury that can be caused when e-bikes are used in such a way.
‘We continue to see low levels of shop theft in Rushcliffe, indeed the lowest levels in the force in recent months, which is a testament to the hard work of the NPT, who deal with the bulk of these enquiries. We’ve also seen a reduction in robbery offences, albeit we do not have many anyway, thanks to the recent charges and remand of some key offenders. You may also be aware that officers from the NPT were joined by Operational Support colleagues and officers from Broxtowe NPT to conduct a series of search warrants in the area linked to drug supply, and there are more in the pipeline too as we keep the pressure on those who deal drugs in the area.
‘You will no doubt be aware that significant and lengthy road improvement works have started on the A52 around the two key roundabouts at Nottingham Knight and Wheatcrofts islands. This will, of course, create a degree of road disruption. However, I’d urge drivers to be patient and respectful as these works progress, and as things stand, no significant issues have been reported.
‘The priorities for the area are up for review at the end of September, so I’ll be discussing the crime trends and concerns with partner agencies at our monthly meeting and will have an update on the latest priorities next month. I’d also like to pass on my thanks to PCSO Ethan Pearsall, who has left our team to join the police as a police officer. I’m sure Ethan will be a great asset to the police officer ranks and wish him all the best in his career.’
