Severn Trent Water customers are set to see a sharp rise in their bills from April 2026, with average charges increasing by around 10 per cent for the coming financial year.
Based on announcements made in late January 2026, the typical annual bill for a Severn Trent household will rise by £52, taking the average total to £587 a year from 1 April 2026.
The increase is higher than the average rise across England and Wales, where bills are expected to go up by around 5.4 per cent over the same period.
This means Severn Trent customers will face almost double the national average increase.
Water companies say the price rises are linked to a major programme of investment across the industry. Around £20 billion is due to be spent in 2026–27 to improve water supplies, upgrade infrastructure and reduce sewage spills into rivers and waterways.
The latest increase also forms part of a longer-term trend in water charges.
Regulators have previously approved plans that could see bills rise by an average of around 47 per cent over the five-year period to 2030, meaning further increases are expected in the years ahead.
The changes are likely to affect millions of households across the Midlands and parts of Wales served by Severn Trent Water, adding to wider pressure on household budgets as energy, council tax and other essential costs continue to rise.
A Severn Trent spokesperson said:
“Severn Trent bills remain the second lowest in the country, £73 below the national average for water and waste services and £172 lower than the highest bill.
“We know however, bills rising can be worrying, so we want our customers to know there’s help if they need it.
“By 2030, we plan to be helping around 1 in 6 households with some form of financial support.
“This includes a discount on bills of up to £390 if customers are eligible, and debt support.
“We are also committed to continue investing in the things our customers told us they care about. Around £8m a day is being spent on investment like laying new pipes, brand new water sources, river health and creating thousands of jobs, as our £15bn investment for the Midlands continues.”
“Severn Trent’s bill is the second lowest in the country for water and waste services
The average bill for 2026/27 will be around £587 per year, which equates to £48.94 a month or £1.61 per day (this is an average, and individual bills will differ).
“It is £73 below the national average of £660 for water and waste company bills, and £172 lower than the highest water and waste bill in England and Wales.
“In percentage terms, Severn Trent’s increase is 4th highest at 10% across all water companies. Affinity’s bills are increasing by 13% , Bristol by 12% and SES Water by 11%.
“In cash terms our bill increase is £52 per year, which is lower than other water and waste companies like UU’s increase of £57, Southern at £55.
“Severn Trent’s 15bn investment by 2030 will see:
£415m to lay over 870 miles of new water pipes
“Over £1.7bn spent on improving river health, aiming to prevent more spills from overflows.
“7,000 jobs for the Midlands.”
