A prolific shoplifter has been banned from multiple shops – including every branch of Greggs in the district of Mansfield.
Jamie Holloway, aged 24, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.
Holloway, who has an extensive history of shoplifting offences, stole money from the tip jar at Costa Coffee, St Peter’s Retail Park, on 28 July, before assaulting a female staff member who bravely tried to stop him.
He also stole cheese and biscuits from businesses in Southwell Road and Ratcliffe Gate on 28 November.
Holloway, of Rolleston Drive, Wollaton, was jailed for 48 weeks and ordered to pay compensation.
Crucially, he was also made the subject of a restrictive Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
The order, valid for the next three years, prohibits him from entering any branch of Greggs, Aldi, Costa Coffee or B&M Bargains in the district of Mansfield.
He is also banned from entering St Peter’s Retail Park and / or any store within it, as well as Asda in Bancroft Lane, Superdrug in Stockwell Gate, Costcutter in Arthur Street, and the Essar Service Station in Southwell Road West.
Any breach of the order is an offence in itself and would likely result in an immediate return to prison.
The order is one of many now in place in Mansfield – all aimed at the small number of repeat offenders who commit a disproportionate number of offences.
These orders are designed to prevent people entering certain areas or doing certain things, such as carrying bags into retail premises. They remain a core part of the town’s anti-shop theft strategy and have helped drive a significant fall in offences over the last two years.
PCSO Victoria Swann, of the town centre policing team, said:
“Holloway has been a persistent nuisance to local businesses over the last few years and has previously been jailed as a result.
“That time behind bars clearly hasn’t done much to rehabilitate him, so we have had to take a different approach to protect local retailers and their staff.
“These orders are extremely effective and I am delighted we have been able to secure one for this offender.
“Any breaches should immediately be referred to the police so we can take appropriate action.”
