There was theft of signalling cables earlier today between Wellingborough and Kettering.
This is affecting services on Intercity and Connect routes.
East Midlands Railways said at 9:19 am 2 August:
‘Network Rail have replaced the cables and some lines have now re-opened which means we can now run our trains again.
‘There will be congestion in the area as a result of the earlier line closure and trains and crew are out of place, we are now working to get trains running to their advertised times again but we expect this to take several hours.
‘Our Connect services can not yet resume.
‘Significant delays and cancellations will affect our services in both directions between London St Panras and Kettering.
Connect Services:
‘Most trains running through the area in both directions cannot run so will start/ terminate at Wellingborough. A shuttle bus will help you to connect with a train if you are travelling from Corby.’
Intercity Services:
‘Trains running through the area in both directions can now start to run but it will be via a slower line so you may be delayed by up to 40 minutes.
‘Some services my be altered so please check your journey and expect significant delays.
At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 2 hours.
‘As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again.
‘We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 11:30.’
