Speeding, untaxed and uninsured drivers targeted in Mansfield and Ashfield

Speeding, untaxed, and uninsured drivers were targeted as roads policing officers launched the latest stage of a proactive policing operation.

Operation Highways is a hyper-local, intelligence-led initiative that deploys additional units to specific neighbourhood areas on a monthly basis.

At the start of a deployment to Mansfield and Ashfield, officers quickly set about addressing concerns raised by the local community – including those highlighted in a PCC survey.

On Wednesday, the team dealt with two speeding drivers on Nottingham Road, Mansfield, before setting up on Alfreton Road near Selston to deter motorists reported to be ignoring the local speed limit.

Shortly before 11 a.m., an uninsured Land Rover was seized with the support of Roads Crime and firearms officers after its driver was stopped on Nottingham Road, Annesley, and issued with a traffic offence report. He was also dealt with for driving on a provisional licence.

Over the last two months, the team has seized 90 vehicles and made dozens of arrests as part of daily operations in different neighbourhood policing areas – responding directly to local concerns and gathering vital intelligence.

The team will retain a focus on Mansfield and Ashfield for the rest of the month.

Sergeant Jim Carrington, of the Roads Policing Unit, said:
“We know that road safety and vehicle-enabled crime are causes of considerable concern in our communities.

“In response, we are listening to residents’ concerns and deploying additional resources to locations of concern – giving us the best chance to catch and detain those flouting the law.”
