A suspect is due in court after an elderly man was assaulted in his own home.
Officers were called to Fox Covert Lane, Clifton, on 29 July, shortly before 12pm after receiving reports that a man had been attacked and a shotgun and ammunition were reportedly stolen.
The 78-year-old victim was found with facial injuries.
Following a quick investigation by officers, a man was found in the area and arrested a short time later.
Klayton Smith, aged 29, of Hodgkin Close, Clifton, has now been charged with possession of a firearm, possession with intent to cause fear of violence, robbery, possession of a loaded shotgun in a public place, possession of a shotgun when prohibited for life and possession of an air weapon when prohibited for life.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (1 August).
Neighbourhood Inspector for City South, Karl Thomas, said: “Thankfully, the victim in this case was not seriously injured but no one should ever have to go through such an attack inside their own home which will no doubt have impacted on him not just physically but emotionally too.
“I am pleased we have now charged a suspect in connection with these offences and would like to thank all of the officers for their quick response.
“I hope it sends a strong message to the public that, as we often reiterate, we take all reports of violence extremely seriously and as we have shown in this case will always do everything we can to investigate and bring any suspects up in front of the courts.”
