Two suspected burglars were caught just minutes after fleeing the scene of a pub break-in.
Officers were called to The William Peverel pub in Main Street, Bulwell, after an alarm was activated around 3am on Monday, 8 June.
CCTV footage showed two men entering the pub after forcing open a fire exit with a crowbar before searching the premises and making off with bottles of alcohol and charity collection tins.
After arriving at the scene, an officer noticed a man carrying a clear bag containing several bottles of prosecco. Following a brief struggle, he was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
A second man was detained nearby by Police Dog Gibbs and was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.
A discarded crowbar was also found near the scene of the burglary.
Officers seized several bottles of prosecco, large bags of coffee beans, four charity collection tins, two pairs of headphones, and a pair of sunglasses.
Thomas Cove, aged 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of burglary other than dwelling and one count of theft from a shop.
Cove appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 9 June and has been remanded on conditional bail.
He is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 17 August.
Ashley Lawrence, aged 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of burglary other than dwelling and one count of theft from a shop.
Lawrence appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 9 June and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 17 June.
Investigator Jo Rigby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “All forms of burglary, whether to a home or business, are completely unacceptable and cause considerable distress to individuals affected.
“Two suspects have now been charged following this pub break-in.
“Officers were quickly at the scene and detained the suspects, and I hope this news provides some reassurance to the public.”
