West Bridgford Junior School is celebrating after its most recent Ofsted inspection recognised the school as meeting a ‘strong standard in all areas’ – a rare and highly regarded outcome under the new inspection framework.
The inspection, carried out in May 2026, highlights that the school is not only performing strongly academically but also placing equal emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion and community.
The school’s personal development provision received significant praise with inspectors describing pastoral care as ‘second to none,’ recognising the significant impact it has on pupils’ wellbeing and development. The report concludes that ‘as a result of the school’s excellent work pupils thrive and leave the school with the academic and personal skills they need to continue to go from strength to strength.’
Speaking following the publication of the report, Executive Headteacher James Willis expressed pride in the whole school community:
He said: ‘We are absolutely delighted with this outcome. To be judged at a strong standard in every area under the new framework is a tremendous achievement and reflects the dedication, passion and teamwork of our entire school community.
“This report recognises what makes our school so special – our brilliant children, our committed staff and the strong partnership we have with families. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and remain determined to continue striving for excellence for every child.’
Pupils themselves were among the strongest ambassadors for the school with inspectors describing them as ‘the best possible advocates,’ adding that they are ‘polite and articulate’ and ‘can talk about their lessons with enthusiasm and recall important knowledge with confidence and clarity.’
The strength of teaching and learning also stood out with staff commended as ‘skilled practitioners’ who carefully plan learning so pupils develop a secure and deep understanding across the curriculum.
With the previous inspection being back in November 2021, the outcome reflects sustained improvement over several years and the collective effort of staff, pupils and parents. It also recognises the school’s role at the heart of the local community, with initiatives ranging from charity work and cultural events to partnerships with local organisations.
As West Bridgford Junior School looks ahead, this achievement reflects the strength of a united community and a shared commitment to excellence — ensuring every child leaves ready to thrive and shape a bright future. The school is also looking forward to acting on the only recommendation identified by Ofsted: sharing its excellent practice more widely with other schools, enabling even more children and communities to benefit from its expertise and success.
