West Bridgford sinkhole could force full road closure

A sinkhole has appeared on Musters Road in West Bridgford, close to the cricket ground end of the road.

The hole is understood to have been caused by a collapsed drain and was reported this week.

Councillor Penny Gowland said Severn Trent is dealing with the issue, while highways contractor Via has indicated that the position of the sinkhole could mean the whole road may need to be closed.

The sinkhole has been fenced off and the lane towards West Bridgford centre is closed, temporary traffic lights are operating.

Cllr Gowland said: “And we have another sink hole. This one is on Musters Road, cricket ground end. Severn Trent are in charge but Via says there is a risk the whole road will have to be closed because of its position.

“The one on Trent Boulevard took at least a month to fix last summer as I recall.”

Motorists are advised to take care in the area and follow any signs or instructions from highways teams while the site is assessed.

The incident follows a similar sinkhole on Trent Boulevard last summer, which caused disruption while repair works were carried out.
