£20million regeneration plan for Worksop approved

A £20million plan to regenerate Worksop Town Centre and some surrounding areas has been given the go ahead by the Government.

The Vision and Regeneration Plan, put together by the Worksop Together Board in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council, has been approved by the Government with the funding being delivered over a 10-year period, starting next month.

The plan aims to bring about improvements that matter to the community including safer streets, revitalised public spaces, a vibrant town centre, opportunities for young people, and stronger neighbourhoods.

Andria Birch, Chair of the Worksop Together Board, and CEO of Bassetlaw Community Voluntary Service (BCVS), said: “On behalf of the Worksop Together Board, we are absolutely delighted that all the hard work undertaken over the last two years has resulted in such a positive outcome.

“Our thanks go out to everyone who has been involved so far, most importantly to local community members and businesses who took the time to feed into the proposals.

“We look forward to developing and delivering transformational change in Worksop over the next 10 years and will be inviting people to get involved in the next steps very soon.”

The Vision and Regeneration plan was put together following independent consultation and engagement in summer 2025 in which nearly 700 residents, businesses and partners shared their views, concerns and preferences for where the money should be spent.

Jo White, MP for Bassetlaw said: “For too long, Worksop has been left behind. I promised to improve the town centre, and this funding is our chance to do just that, breathing new life back into a place we were once proud of.”

“Local people have already told us how this money should be spent, and this is about putting their ideas into action. I am delighted that the Government has given us the go ahead and this funding will be the trigger to unlock new investment, opportunities and activities that will make the town centre a safe, enjoyable and welcoming place to be.”

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity, Planning and Place at Bassetlaw District Council, said; “This funding, provided over a 10-year period, allows us to make strategic, long-term plans that will contribute to improving Worksop and making it a better and more welcoming place for everyone to work, live and visit.

“We are delighted that the Government has supported the proposals that were shaped by local people and will add extra value to the work that is already taking place at the Priory Centre and through our work to target long-term empty shops on the high street.”

The government funding, previously known as Plan for Neighbourhoods has been renamed Pride in Place and aims to build stronger communities, create thriving places and empower local people.
