East Midlands Railway cuts services for Monday as hot weather affects train fleet

East Midlands Railway to reduce services as hot weather affects train fleet.

East Midlands Railway will introduce temporary timetable changes on Monday 13 July after recent hot weather affected the availability of some trains.

The operator said a number of trains require additional checks and maintenance following high temperatures over the weekend, placing pressure on its available fleet.

A reduced timetable will operate on some routes to help maintain services across the wider network and keep spare trains available in case of further disruption.

Passengers are being advised to check their journeys before travelling and, where possible, travel before midday, when temperatures are expected to be lower.

Connect services are expected to operate in full.

A reduced Intercity timetable will run, with some services removed throughout the day.

Several changes will also affect EMR Regional services from 12:00.

Robin Hood Line services between Nottingham and Worksop will be suspended from midday, along with Nottingham to Leicester stopping services.

Liverpool Lime Street–Nottingham–Norwich services will operate only between Sheffield and Norwich.

EMR said it was working with Network Rail and its fleet partners to monitor conditions and restore normal services as soon as possible.

Passengers who need to travel are advised to carry water, wear lightweight clothing and use shaded areas or station waiting rooms where available.

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “The high temperatures we have experienced over recent days have continued to put pressure on the railway and the availability of some of our trains.

“Our priority is to keep as much of the network running as possible while continuing to operate safely.

“By making temporary changes to a small number of services, we can better protect the wider timetable and provide greater resilience across the network.

“We apologise for the disruption these changes may cause and thank customers for their patience and understanding.”

Passengers should check the latest information on the EMR website or app before setting off.
