Free hip hop theatre pop-up coming to Victoria Centre this weekend

Victoria Centre is set to host a live dance experience this weekend, as internationally renowned hip hop theatre company Breakin’ Convention brings a free pop-up performance to the centre.

Taking place in the South Square (outside Boots) on Sunday 19 April from 12pm – 4pm, the event will give Nottingham visitors an exclusive preview of world-class talent ahead of Breakin’ Convention’s upcoming shows at the Theatre Royal Nottingham on 15 and 16 May.

Founded in 2004 and based at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, Breakin’ Convention has led the global hip hop theatre movement for over two decades. Showcasing leading artists from around the world, it represents both the origins and evolution of hip hop culture through powerful performances that blend dance, music and storytelling.

The pop-up performance will bring this energy directly into Victoria Centre, transforming the space into a vibrant stage and offering visitors a taste of the creativity and innovation that defines Breakin’ Convention’s critically acclaimed productions.

Curated by hip hop theatre pioneer Jonzi D, the platform continues to sit at the forefront of the genre’s global development, spanning international touring, festivals, youth engagement and community projects, all designed to connect audiences through movement and expression.
