Armed police arrest four after firearm sighting in Nottingham

Four suspects were arrested by armed officers after they seized an imitation firearm.

Police attended an address in Raleigh Street, Radford, after receiving reports a gun had been sighted.

An airsoft rifle was located and seized by armed policing and response officers when they arrived around 10.10pm on Sunday (11 May).

Four men – aged 19, 20, 20 and 21 – were all arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

PC Imran Ahmed, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“As this incident showed, anyone who carries a firearm – whether it be viable or an imitation one – should expect to be faced with a robust response from the police.

“The reasoning for this is quite simple in that doing this causes understandable alarm to the local community and could, for obvious reasons, be incredibly dangerous.

“Bearing all of this in mind, it’s important that we as the police treat reports of this nature seriously and take immediate action.

“While the firearm involved in this incident proved to be an airsoft rifle, we hope the swift response of our policing teams and the four arrests that followed provide the public with some reassurance.”
