Burglars arrested after targeting Nottingham house ‘full of cannabis’

Police used stingers to stop a car and arrest five suspects after a house found to be full of cannabis was burgled.

The vehicle was tracked down within an hour of reports coming in about suspicious behaviour outside a Bilborough address.

Multiple people wearing hoodies were reportedly seen trying to get inside the property, just after 4.35am on Sunday (15 June).

This sighting came less than 24 hours after police attended the same location following a call about an ongoing break-in at the house.

Substantial amounts of cannabis were discovered growing across the property, while the electricity was also found to have been bypassed.

A group carrying crowbars and wearing balaclavas were reportedly behind Saturday’s (14 June) burglary but fled before officers arrived.

On Sunday morning and police became aware of a vehicle that they suspected could be linked to the two incidents at the Bilborough house.

Operational Support officers zeroed-in on its location and deployed stingers to pop the car’s tyres and bring it to a halt – around 5.15am – near Junction 26 of the M1.

Five men – aged 25, 26, 22, 23 and 18 – were all detained within the vehicle and arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

The 25-year-old man was additionally arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified and driving without valid insurance.

Detective Sergeant Kate Hyde, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Our policing teams did a great job linking these two separate incidents together before taking action in quick time.

“Their collective efforts ultimately resulted in us tracking down and arresting five people we suspect were involved in an aggravated burglary over the weekend.

“They were also able to find and dismantle a substantial cannabis grow within a house, which was the target of said break-in.

“While these two discoveries came 24 hours apart, tallied together, they represented a really good result.”
